Platform Update – Improved friends loading

In this weeks update we improved the friends section of the SocialSpace. Our goal was to reduce the load time and to support Facebook users with very high friend counts (one of our users has 1,500 friends).

To achieve that we had to reengineer both the retrieval code and to implement local caching. In the end we got, on average, a 5 times performance gain in typical usage scenarios, and even up to 10 times as much for users with more than 500 friends.

Adding caching had an additional benefit. For a period of 24 hours your friends are cached locally so opening the friends section should be almost instantaneous after the first time.

We are planning to include local caching in all the other parts of the SocialSpace during the next couple of weeks, especially the streams view, which is the most time consuming operation so far.

eblizz is enhancing the web experience with two all new features:
the SocialSpace and the ShoeBox

SocialSpace acts as a gateway to share web content in an exciting and simple way. Visually a dynamic collection of friends profile pictures collected from the users social networks the SocialSpace allows to drag&drop any sort of content onto a friend’s picture. eblizz then automatically delivers that content to that friends personal page in the respective social network.

ShoeBox is a personal place in the web where users collect content of their choice. The ShoeBox is not an archive of links but contains the original content itself (text, pictures, videos, products) and preserves it for later use even when the original source no longer exists. Users access their ShoeBox through eblizz apps available for Facebook, Myspace, the iPhone, Google phone and others
